Registration is open for the 2022 ACB

Brenda Dillon Memorial Walk. Sign up for the RSVA At Your Service team. Proceeds support RSVA and ACB national. We’ll walk our way to the opening session of the 61st annual ACB Conference and Convention on July 2nd at 6pm CT, and there will be virtual walks across the country as well. So, let’s all walk together wherever we may be as we raise awareness on the importance walking plays toward living a healthy and independent life. Go to www.acb.org and click on the link that says Register for the ACB Walk. Sign up for the RSVA At Your Service team and donate. You can join in person or virtually. if you are having problems signing up on our walk page, please feel free to reach out to the ACB Minneapolis office: 612-332-3242. They will help you signup or Sponsor your favorite walker. Please encourage your colleagues and friends to sponsor one of our members or donate to the RSVA® Walk page. Let us get more donations than the other ACB teams!

·         The RSVA® conference is July 1 through July 4. The RSVA® full package registration fee is $125 includes a $5 drawing ticket for the drawing occurring during the convention. On Friday, July 1, attend the RSVA® and IVIE open mixer, 9 pm -12 am, (all ACB members invited). If you pre-register, the cost is $20. At the convention or at the door, the cost is $25. On Saturday, July 2, RSVA® Programming Sessions occur from 1:00 pm - 5:15 pm. The first panel will be “All about the Nebraska Business Enterprise Program”. Speakers are Eric Buckwalter, CVRCB, NBE Coordinator, Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Lincoln, Nebraska; Jim Jirek, Owner Jirak Enterprises, Omaha, Nebraska. This session will highlight the Business Enterprise Program in Nebraska so participants will learn how they train vendors, the types of facilities they have in the program, and some statistics of relevance: gross sales, number of facilities, number of vendors, etc. They will also learn how blind persons can become a vendor in the state.

The second session will be on “The Value of Randolph-Sheppard Business Enterprises as Career Opportunities”. Speakers will be Eric Buckwalter, CVRCB, NBE Coordinator, Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Lincoln, Nebraska; John Gordon, Bureau Chief and Acting BEP Director, Illinois Department for the Blind, Chicago, IL; Patrick Martin, RSVF Vendor, Tallahassee, Florida. (This session is co-sponsored with the ACB Rehabilitation Task Force.). Participants will learn the benefits of this career option as well as how states find recruits. They will also learn what skills are necessary as well as the education and training that is provided.

The third session will be “Outlook Enrichment Assistance”. Paulette Monthei BSW, MPA, Enrichment Executive Director, Omaha, Nebraska;Alex Curtis, NE Vendor Trainee, Omaha, Nebraska. In this session, Outlook Enrichment offerings will be explained. It will describe the differing technology and other skills training that can assist those entering the vending program as well as other careers.

On Sunday, July 3, the RSVA® Awards Luncheon will be from 12:15 pm to 2:30 PM with speaker: Deb Cook Lewis, ACB 1st Vice President, retired WA technology specialist, Clarkston, Washington. The pre-registration price is $40.00, and the convention price is $45.00. On Sunday, July 3, RSVA® will hold two events: 1st act "Enjoy some Laughs” with RSVA® comedian Willie Farrell with start time at 7:30 PM and Karaoke will start at 9 PM. The pre-registration price of the comedian is $20 and the price for Karaoke is $15.00.

On Monday, July 4, the RSVA® casino trip will begin at 6:15 PM. The return will be near midnight. The pre-registration price is $30.00, and the convention price is $35.00. Take a break and enjoy visiting the Horshoe Casino.

                It’s not too late. Read info below…

Have you made your reservations yet to travel to Omaha for the ACB convention? The Hilton is located in downtown Omaha. The airport Eppley Field, (airport code oma), is located 3 miles from the hotel and is classified as a medium hub airport by FAA. Airlines serving Eppley field: Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United. You can also take Amtrak or Greyhound to Omaha; the stations are both approximately a 5-minute ride to the hotel.

Below is information from the convention registration page describing this year’s conference. This provides you with an overview of the registration process. For the first time, ACB will be holding a hybrid conference and convention where we will be offering virtual only sessions, in-person only sessions, and virtual and in-person sessions. For ACB to hold a hybrid conference and convention, the registration process has changed from what you might have experienced in the past. Please read the following important information before you begin to register.

·          Registration ends June 20, 2022. Registration will re-open on June 28th, when the Minneapolis office is on-site in Omaha.

·         Since the conference and convention is in Omaha, all times shown on this website are central daylight time!

·         To register, you must login to your member account at https://members.acb.org/. If you do not remember your login and password, you may select “password reset” or call the Minneapolis office at 612-332-3242. Once logged in to the members site, select the link labeled “convention.”

·         If you have not created a member account at https://members.acb.org/, select the link labeled “Create an Account” and provide the information requested. After creating an account, you can log in, but it may take up to 24 business hours before you will be able to complete a convention registration, as the Minneapolis office needs to link your member account to our database.

·         If you need assistance in registering, telephone registration will be available by calling Janet Dickelman at 651-428-5059.

·         Once you have selected the “ACB Convention” link on the members main page, it will open on an introduction page you should read, the proceed to your preferences page. Please verify the contact information shown. On this page. You will also select whether you will be attending the convention virtually or in-person. If you choose to be a virtual attendee, you will not be shown sessions that are only available to in-person attendees (like tours). If you choose to be an in-person attendee, you will be shown all virtual and in-person sessions.

·         At any time you may use this page to browse through all the meetings, programs, seminars and workshops being offered. Each day’s general session also appears along with the agenda for that day. 

·         Registration closes June 20, 2022. If you have not registered during the May 12th to June 20 period, you will be able to register on-site in Omaha. Instructions on how to register as a virtual attendee after June 20th will be posted soon.

·         There is an administrative fee of $35 for ACB members and $50 for non-members. On and after June 28th, registration will be $45 for members and $60 for non-members.

·         Most of the conference and convention will be live streamed on ACB Media. Registering will make you eligible for the daily door prize drawings. By registering, you will also have access to each days zoom sessions and you can actively participate in the zoom meeting for each session. If you do not register, you will only be able to listen to sessions streamed on ACB Media.

·         All virtual sessions are free of charge and the registration process does not require you to select sessions you plan to attend. Zoom links for attendees will be communicated on this website and via email like 2021.

·         In past in-person conventions, most sessions had tickets and during the registration process you had to select the sessions you planned on attending. In 2022, you will ONLY select and receive tickets for the tours or sessions that have a charge.

·         See the continuing education / professional development tab for information about how to register for CE (continuing education) credits or PD (personal development) hours. There is an additional charge for registering for CE credits or PD hours.

·         Kids Club will once again be offered to children under 13 for in-person attendees. Fun activities are scheduled from July 2nd to July 7th. To register your children) for Kids Club, please register yourself (and significant other if applicable), then call the Minneapolis office at 612-332-3242. You will receive a discounted administrative fee for your children.

·         The conference and convention program will be available in large print, braille, and digital cartridge. In-person attendees will receive their program when they pick up their registration packets. Programs for virtual attendees will be mailed directly to the address listed in your ACB account profile and you should receive the program prior to the beginning of the convention. You will also be able to download and/or browse the conference and convention program on www.acb.org.

·         Make your hotel reservations today! Room rates at The Hilton, located at 1001 Cass Street, are $96.00 (single or double occupancy) with an additional $10.00 per person for up to four people per room. Room tax is currently 18.16%. One night's stay will be charged to your credit card when you book your reservation. To make reservations online go to American Council of the Blind - Start your reservation (passkey.com) .

When asked to select guest type on the main screen, select attendee. For those who wish to call in and make their reservation, call 1-800-HILTONS 800) 445-8667 and reference the name of the group block, American Council of the Blind. The group code if needed for those calling in is ACB. When you arrive in Omaha Margarine Beaman or one of her airport volunteers will be waiting to greet you at your arrival gate. To assist airline personnel and Margarine Beaman and her cadre of airport volunteers: if you would like assistance when you arrive at the airport in Omaha, please submit the following information. If you have connecting flights please provide the information for both flights.
