March Vendor check-in Call speakers and Zoom info

Ardis

Hello all,

Our next RSVA RS vendor check-in call is on March 21 at 5 pm Pacific/8 pm eastern. Our two speakers this month are:

Anat Nulman, Business Development Director, USA, is speaking about the RealSAM Pocket. It is a revolutionary voice-operated smartphone. It is a great option for those who would like to use a smartphone but are struggling with the complexity of commercially available phones because they can’t find the apps, it’s too complex to learn the accessibility gestures, voice over has limited functionality or it’s simply too much. With RealSAM Pocket, there’s no need to learn complicated touch screens or struggle with reading small buttons; just tap the screen and talk. It’s that simple!

Our second speaker will be Sam Davis, CPA Centric District Manager, Automatic Data Processing. He helps clients find the best payroll, HR, and retirement solutions that best fit their needs.  Additionally, he services a variety of clients in multiple states, and bring a high level of attention to detail when it comes to state specific information. He connected with Mark Erickson of Erickson General Corporation and he valued cost savings, better technology, and better service. Forward this to vendors you know. Those not receiving this on the RSVA-announce list can subscribe by sending an email to rsva-announce+subscribe@...

Every state has a Client Assistance Program, (CAP), handling rehabilitative service issues. I might suggest contacting them and expressing your concerns. They will be able to intervene and mediate on your behalf.

It’s sad to human beings that people can abuse power, laughing thinking that the counselor wants to act this way It’s sad in reference to blind people just wanting to move forward so they have money for a form of quality of life and pay taxes for these programs, have some vacations and retire. The answer as I’m not there is documentation, documentation, documentation even though it’s one sentence or a little more of what you’re doing and what the interactions are and responses in case you need it later, Of which of course you don’t want to go in that direction but just in case you need it. Do you want to blow past this person to get to the next level. Now just simply ask how do we get along, and what are the steps needed and let the counselor know that you’re writing it down, not in a threatening way , Just for information so we’re on the same page and go through those motions if you choose to go in this direction. You can’t make people smart or care, but you can play a game if you understand what the game is and the things that you need to do because most important you’re trying to get to the next level. Hope that helps Tom

answers to question on sales tax

Ardis

Hi all,

The following is the list of sales taxes and exemptions for some states. If you have more info or are from another state, let me know. Thanks.

Florida from Colton Knight:

Florida State sales tax is 6% with a discretionary sales tax on top of that depending on the county you live. Leon County, which is Tallahassee have a discretionary sales tax of 1.5% making our sales tax percentage total 7.5%. We don’t pay sales tax on medicines, water, or milk.

Florida from James Warth:

7.5 % BUT IT DEPENDS ON WHICH COUNTY YOU LIVE IN IN FL IT IS 6% PLUS THE COUNTY TAX CAN BE FROM .5 TO 2 HIGHER

MS from Paul Esculano

In Mississippi it’s 7% on sales, but on vending it’s 8% on what you purchase for the machines.

Ohio from Chris Johnson:

In Ohio the state Sales Tax is 7 or 7.25% but localities may add on another .25%, for example to support a public transit system.  Food consumed on premises (dine in) and packaged beverages other than milk and juice are taxable.  Groceries and food purchased for carry-out are not taxable.  Businesses such as ours which may purchase taxable items for resale are required to provide a Blanket Certificate of Exemption to our suppliers, including club stores so that we don't have to pay sales tax when purchasing those items to resell in our facilities.  We do have to pay sales tax on supply items such as cleaning supplies, office supplies, and most services like an exterminator.  Hope this helps.

Hawaii from Ronald Flormata:

The sales tax in Hawaii if 4.712% for products and services statewide. We pay six cents for every can and plastic bottles on top of the cost. They call it Hawaii beverage tax.

Washington State from Glenn McCully:

In Washington state the state collects 6.5% but cities and counties are allowed to add additional and everyone does. The statewide average is 8.884% but the counties surrounding Seattle are all above 10% with the highest being 10.6% it is paid on everything except prescription drugs and food items in the grocery store excluding prepared foods and carbonated beverages and alcohol. Non-food items such as sundries and toilet paper are taxed. The sales tax on liquor is 20.5% this is in addition to a bottle and tax on the liquor itself.

Montana from Edward Robbins:

Montana has no sales tax.

Iowa from Kevin Slayton:

In Iowa there is a state-wide 6% and a lot of cities and counties have instituted an additional 1% local option sales tax. In addition here is a general list of items that are non-taxable.

Water that is not flavored or have artificial sweetener

100% Juice

Plain Iced tea

Chip type items

Bakery type items (pastry, cookies)

Crackers

Nuts or seeds as long as they are not candy coated (this includes honey)

Dairy products (milk, ice cream)

any items that contains flour as an ingredient. (in candy this would include Twix bars and Twizzlers)

Alabama from Johnny Boshell

Alabama is one of the lucky states. We don’t have a sales tax. We are exempt.

Nebraska from Jim Jirak

The Nebraska sales tax rate is 5.5%. However, local counties may also charge additional sales taxes.

Utah from Donna Neri-Wells

Utah's state sales tax rate is 4.85% with local sales and county options at least 1.25% additional. The grocery and vending sales tax is 3%.

Colorado from Krista Hedlund:

Colorado has a 2.90 percent state sales tax rate, a max local sales tax rate of 8.30 percent, and an average combined state and local sales tax rate of 7.77 percent. Colorado's tax system ranks 20th overall on our 2022 State Business Tax Climate Index.

New York from Karen Blachowicz:

NY sales tax is 8% across-the-board.

Idaho from Beth Cunningham:

Idaho has a 6% sales tax.

North Carolina from Ron Eller:

North Carolina General Assembly passed legislation way back in, I believe 1951, that exempted the vending program from collecting and paying state and local sale taxes.

Michigan from Ben Ploch:

In Michigan we pay 6% sales tax on any prepared food, Coffee, fountain pop, greeting cards and toiletries.

California from Max Duarte and Ardis Bazyn:

The California sales tax rate is currently 6%. The County sales tax rate is 0.25%, and we have some additional county sales tax for projects specific to San Bernardino at 1.5%. In our city of Chino, there is currently no sales tax specific to a project, so this gives us a total of a 7.75% tax rate here in San Bernardino. In California your sales tax changes depending on your county or city. In Burbank, it is 10 percent since Los Angeles County and the city of Burbank have additional taxes.
