ACB Statement 7-21-21

David Trott

Eric Bridges, ACB’s Executive Director shared that “ACB and our members are deeply concerned regarding the media reports of the treatment of Paralympian Rebecca Meyers by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

ACB is alarmed that the USOPC, could be in violation of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act by not providing primary consideration to the accommodation request of a person with a disability.

It is unacceptable to refer to the provision of an individual’s reasonable accommodation, which is necessary for their full inclusion and success, as the athlete’s choice”. To read the full statement, visit: https://acb.org/acb-statement-7-21-21.

Mock Election - Get Ready for Convention

David Trott

ACB will be electing 5 officers, 5 directors, and 3 members of the Board of Publications during its national convention coming up in just over a week. This is the first time that every member has a chance to vote, and we hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to shape our great organization.

So that we can learn how to use the voting system, ACB is holding a mock election tomorrow, Friday, July 9, to give all members a chance to practice using the Vote Now system. Individuals are asked to vote for Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck at any time between 10 AM and 5 PM Eastern Time tomorrow. See your ACB ballot email, which you should have received on Tuesday, or check your braille or large print voting instructions that were mailed to you in June if you did not have a valid email, for your voter code and instructions on how to cast your vote. If you did not receive your ACB Ballot email or your braille or large print instructions if you didn't have a valid email, call the Minnesota office at 612-332-3242 to obtain your voter information.

ACB is also having a practice affiliate roll call at 5:00 PM Eastern
(2:00 PM Pacific) tomorrow.

Thank you for participating in this mock election and helping us prepare for the ACB Conference and Convention.

Take Advantage of our Software Discounts

by Elizabeth Whitaker

Freedom Scientific is offering a 20 percent discount on software for customers living in the U.S. With the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) 2021 National Convention right around the corner, there’s no better time to purchase a new software license or renew an existing one.

Home Annual License

Receive a 20 percent discount when purchasing a new Home Annual license of JAWS, ZoomText, or Fusion. Visit the Home Annual page of the Freedom Scientific e-store to purchase your license. You will not need a code to receive this discount. It will be automatically applied upon purchase.

If you already have a Home Annual license and want to renew it, log into the Freedom Scientific Licensing Portal, and select Renew. The discount is automatically applied to your purchase. The renewal term you choose will be added onto the end of your existing license no matter where you are in your current term.

Home ILM Upgrades and SMAs

If you have a Home Internet License Manager (ILM) and need to purchase an upgrade or add a software maintenance agreement (SMA), the same 20 percent discount applies. Visit the Freedom Scientific Serial Number Lookup Page and enter your serial number to check your licensing status. You will not need a code to receive this discount. It will be automatically applied when purchasing an ILM or SMA.

OpenBook

Currently, OpenBook software for home use is specially priced at $195.00, but you can get this price only by calling Freedom Scientific Customer Service at 800-444-4443.

If you have purchased a Pro license for JAWS, ZoomText, or Fusion for use at home, you can receive a 20 percent discount when purchasing an upgrade and/or SMA. Contact Customer Service at 800-444-4443 to receive this discount. The 20 percent discount will apply to the Pro software upgrades and SMAs for users who want to keep their Pro licenses rather than switching to home licenses.
