[ACBL-Board] I Need Your Input

Donna Pomerantz

Good Sunday Ray:

Yes, several ACB Women Committee members have concern about this policy but
the group decided to continue putting our calls on the Community Call List.

I would like to know, as you are on the ACB Board as an Officer of ACB to
represent us, the membership, so because I did not listen to that call I'd
like to know how you voted and what your thought process is as to why you
voted as you did. This will help me come to an understanding as to your
thought process as I do not walk in your shoes.

Many thanks in advance for your response to this.

Hello Lions:

I hope you're all having a great Sunday. I need your input on something.
The ACB Community Calls have a new rule, that every call has to be recorded
to the cloud, that the recording has to be retained for two weeks and a link
to the recording has to be sent to community@... within 24 hours of each
call. The ACB board approved this policy change at our meeting on October
9. Cindy Hollis indicated this is being done to protect participants on
calls and to investigate any complaints about a particular call where it's
believed that inappropriate things were said.

I need an answer by Wednesday to this question. Because of this change, do
we still want to keep the monthly "Come Roar with ACB Lions" conference call
on the ACB Community List? I can tell you that BITS has taken their BITS
chats off the community list because of this change. I've also talked with
someone on the ACB Women committee who has expressed some concerns about
this. During the board discussion, concerns were expressed about recording
certain types of calls where topics of a sensitive nature are discussed, but
the board approved the policy anyway.

I need to put our November 4 call in for the community list by this
Wednesday, so please let me know by then if you want to keep our calls on
the community list and I'll do what the majority of those responding want to
do. You can call or email me.

Thanks very much,

Ray, I suggest we post as usual for this upcoming call and discuss the issue there. In that way we can make the decision as a group and have the opportunity to discuss the benefits and problems of participating in the community. I suggest you include that agenda item in the meeting announcement so as to inform the membership. It will be interesting to see if that item gets deleted from the meeting announcement by those who compile the descriptions of the calls.

I for one don't feel we should continue to put our calls on the ACB

system. Anyway, to put each group on the Cloud? No. -Barb k1eir@...

Hi Lion Donna and all:

I did vote for the whole package of community policy changes that was
presented to us, including the recording. One other member of the board and
I expressed concerns about calls that address topics of a sensitive or
deeply personal nature being recorded, and I tried to get those exempted
from having to be recorded. The response we got was that since the
recordings will only be accessed if there is a complaint, that it wouldn't
be an issue. I felt like as an ACB officer, I need to do whatever I can to
protect those who participate in our community and keep our calls safe,
respectful and welcoming. I understand the issue Cindy and Colby are
having, trying to figure out how to best manage the community, even if I
don't agree with everything they're doing.

I thank everyone who has, so far, provided their input. Several of you have
suggested we put this on our November 4 meeting agenda. So what I'll do is
put the November 4 call on the community list and we'll discuss this issue
during our call and those in attendance can decide what we do going forward.
Keep in mind this means the November 4 call will be recorded, and I'll work
with John Ross, our Zoom host to get the link sent to the ACB Community
email address.

Thank you Lion President Ray. I understand all you have shared and it sounds
exactly like the discussions we all had on our ACB Women Internal Committee

share very private things on our community calls but for now ACB Women as a
group are, with concern, agreeing to place our calls on the Community Call
email list...time will tell how this all works out. Thanks for sharing your
thought process and why you voted as you did while expressing concern.

having, trying to figure out how to best manage the community, even if I
don't agree with everything they're doing.

Thanks,

Dolly Sowder

We feel that this should be discussed at the Nov. 4 meeting.
Three questions we came up with are, ,
What advantage would it be to have our meeting sent to a cloud?
What disadvantage?
Who all has access to the cloud?
