Re: [Leadership] [ACB-Conversation] Voting On Resolutions

Donna Pomerantz

Thank you Gabe for your note. My understanding is that the Zoom information has been sent out to everyone registered.

Also, many thanks for sharing that you are already taking notes on making things even better. Debriefs are standard practice and ACB has been doing this on a regular basis and now that surveys are being sent out all can share there what has been great and what gave some struggles.

As all have been saying, it is great to have so much staff support and volunteers holding staff up as well as the membership volunteers.

Thank you much, yes this is the first time all of this has been done as Janet and others have shared and now you too.

Thanks much everyone so no special zoom information for resolutions this time…thanks for the answer.

Take care everyone, stay healthy  and hear ya all on Zoom for resolutions and the coming voting!

Hello Donna and Bob,

First, thank you Donna for your observations about the time put in to the voting on resolutions. Having served on both the Resolutions and voting taskforces this last year I can say we put a lot of thought in to the process. As Dan mentioned this morning, this is the first time we've done things this way so it may not be perfect but we're already taking notes on what can be done differently and hopefuly better next year.

As far as your question about a members only zoom, it's my understanding that the zoom info is only being sent out to members. That being said, it's always possible that there will be nonmembers who could get it but my personal feeling and hope is that just like at our CCB convention when we did this that any numbers of people who would be raising their hands on zoom would be so small as to not be impactful.

On the other side of that argument, there is no guarantee that everyone in the room for the voicevote is a registered ACB member either and never has ben. The only time theres ever really a guarantee that only ACB members are voting is if it comes down to a rollcall vote.

Just my 1.5 cents worth. Thanks for reading.

Gabe

Sounds like there has been a lot of thought put into the voting on resolutions…thanks to everyone for that.

Question…and you might not have the ability to do this, this time around so please directly say so if that is the case as am sure there are a lot of moving parts...

Do you have the ability to send out a “members only” Zoom information for members to use to log on to so that it can be assured that “only members” are seeking role call, etc…or will Nancy or someone else make sure that all hands up are members only before any Zoom votes are taken…before moving on?

Thanks so much.

Re: [ACB-Conversation] Voting On Resolutions

Bob and all, yes, I agree having come off of a very large event at the Rose Bowl with our Lions being a part of the AmericaFest celebration, while it was wonderful, so many people don’t even know the half of what took place even seconds right before our portion took place. I know with ACB there are so many thanks that we do not even know about. This environment is a very new one, each year there are additions, as Janet said, first it was totally Zoom, then now this year it is virtual and in person…with these questions no harm is meant at all, am sure as a membership organization as are others, questions always come up because we don’t know the answers. It is awesome that ACB now has all the staff it does, and so many volunteers help hold everything up as well. Hope we learn the answer to that question…I know everyone is under a great deal of stress, again having sat in the Presidents seat in several organizations and even now, as well as having observed what Mitch and others have gone through to help get us all where we are today…it has taken everyone to get us to the point we are at today…

So glad I had the opportunity to listen to what I could while here at home juggling all my presidential responsibilities with Lions…and our huge participation. Many have so much to balance and are balancing…and am heading off line again right now for several hours😊.

I pray for them all every day!

Donna, let us keep asking such questions. Also, I truly would hope that there was a way to quickly vote on resolutions. It appears that we have a lot of time during this week to hear many of them.

I feel so bad for the Media Team as the Alexa media convention sessions are difficult to hear. Let us hope the future will see improvement here. Hotels are usually very hard to make complicated internet connections work.

Hi all, I'm not a moderator or anything, but I think it's important to pay attention to where you're sending your vote. I know it's easy to just hit reply all, and there's your email, but instead of just Mitch reading it, everybody on the list knows how you're voting. Trust me, I've been there, done that. Yikes! But if you read through the email, Mitch's email address is in the body of the message with a link. So if you hit that link, you should go to his email address. Hope this helps, and people don't think I'm just being a grouch. Not a grouchy bone in my body today. LOL.    Debby P

Seeking your vote for ACB Board of Directors

Rachel Schroeder

Hello ACB lions,

I hope this message finds you all well and for those of you in Omaha, that your preparations and travels have all gone smoothly.

This message is to tell you a little more about myself and to ask for your support and vote as I seek a position on the ACB board of directors.

I live in Springfield Illinois, work full time as an Assistive Technology Specialist and am a single mom to a beautiful seven-year-old girl who is the light of my life.  I am a proud life member of ACB and was honored to be selected as one of the 2019 JPMorgan Chase Leadership Fellows.

I’m running for a board position now because I feel that now is the right time to make good on a promise I made in 2019 when I was honored as an ACB  JP Morgan Chase Leadership Fellow.  At that time, I made a promise that as soon as my state presidency for Illinois Council of the Blind was completed, I was going to invest back into ACB what they and JP Morgan Chase invested in me as a leader.  I am now here to do just that.

My over 27 years in ACB serving on numerous local, state and national committees and holding various officer roles including president of the Illinois Council of the Blind for the past eight years has prepared me and provided me with a wonderful foundation and perspective from which to work and bring my service up to the next level.   Nationally, you may know me from my work on the ACB auction and ACB Women’s committees and heard me at times doing shows or helping out with other broadcasts on ACB Media.

As I seek to serve on the board I feel that if elected, I will be able to bring much to the table. I have great appreciation for our rich ACB history but also am filled with optimism and enthusiasm for being inclusive to all and moving ACB into the future.  I feel that I would be able to approach my work on the board in a manner of respectfully listening, learning and collaborating with others to arrive at good decisions to best represent ACB and its members.  Alone I may not have all the answers but together with others who also have ACB’s best interest at heart, we can make our best efforts to arrive at the best solutions possible.

If elected to a position on the ACB Board of Directors, I will work hard on the ACB advocacy front to continue to keep our issues out there so that we can ultimately make things better for all who come after us in ACB and in the blindness community.  I will also do my best to make myself available and approachable to all ACB members and affiliates to discuss concerns or ideas and work hard to foster good communication and strong working relationships.  In addition, I will work hard to find opportunities to mentor potential new leaders and find ways to give them experience and allow them to shine in the ways in which they choose to serve ACB. These potential leaders are ACB’s future.

As a lion myself who has also benefited long ago from the great work Lions do, I hope that you feel that I would represent our ACB lions affiliate well on the ACB board and would greatly appreciate your vote.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  I can be reached most easily by email. The address is: rschroeder.acb@....  You can call or text me at 407-924-7264.

Thank you for reading and for voting.  Have a great convention.

Best Regards,

Rachel Schroeder

Follow-up Information, ACB Lions Affiliate Voting

mitch.pomerantz@...

Fellow ACB Lions:

This will serve as a follow-up and reminder regarding the upcoming ACB elections. Based on an e-mail from Rick Morin, all virtual delegates and alternate delegates are to assemble via Zoom 15 minutes prior to all rollcall votes for elected Board and BOP positions. Therefore, my plan is to collect all ACBL member votes via e-mail: mitch.pomerantz@... or telephone: (626) 844-4388 until 6:45 AM Pacific Daylight Time, 7:45 AM Mountain, 8:45 AM Central, and 9:45 AM Eastern. Unfortunately for you Lions residing in Hawaii, that means 3:45 AM. Once that time has come and gone I will call Marsha Farrow, our delegate, who will be the one to actually cast the affiliate’s four votes. The above will apply Monday through Thursday. Once I have passed along our vote count to Marsha, I will then join the delegate and alternate “green room.” With luck, Marsha will be wide awake and I won’t need to cast our votes (smile and yawn).

For those of you with questionable memories like mine, it would probably be a good idea to keep this communication until the election process has concluded. If anyone has questions, please contact me at the above e-mail or phone.

ACB Lions Members:

As you may know, Marsha Farrow is serving as ACB Lions Delegate at the upcoming Conference and Convention and I, Mitch Pomerantz, will serve as Alternate Delegate. Marsha will be attending in-person while I will be participating virtually.

ACB Lions will have four votes this year and it is our practice to divide up those votes based on individual input from our members. As such, and as we did last year, if there is a contested election for either a Board of Directors’ or Board of Publications seat I will receive and count your voting preference and pass it along to our Delegate. Even if you are attending in-person, you should contact me with your vote rather than trying to find Marsha. I will accept votes up until the presiding officer calls for the affiliates to announce their votes. I will then contact Marsha via phone to let her know the totals for each candidate. This worked well last year since ACB Lions doesn’t get called upon for some time during the roll call.

My telephone and e-mail contact information is as follows:
