Won't Be at Lions Meeting Thursday

Ray Campbell

Hi Lions:

Lions Karyn and I will not be on Thursday night's ACB Lions call. Karyn's
Mom passed away last weekend, and the funeral is on Thursday. I'm thinking
we won't feel like being on the call that night.

ACB Lions 2021 Invitation

Carla Ruschival

ACBL gives Lions across the country who are blind and visually
impaired a chance to share ideas and experiences. ACBL encourages
people with low vision to become Lions and participate in service
projects in their local clubs and communities.

ACBL holds informative telephone conference call meetings on the first
Thursday of each month at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (6:00 PM Pacific). 30
to 40 people from across the country join the call each month to
discuss issues of importance to Lions, and there is usually time to
ask questions and share ways we participate in our local clubs. Calls
are held on the Zoom platform, so you can participate from any cell
phone, landline or smartphone. Watch our email list or the ACB
Community Events schedule for ways to join the calls, or call (502)
897-1472 for dial-in information.

ACB Lions hosts events at the annual conference and convention of the
American Council of the Blind. At the 2020 Virtual Conference and
Convention, one of our programs was entitled "Lessons in Leadership";
the speaker was Current International Director Shea Nickell of
Paducah, Kentucky. The program is available as a podcast; listen by
visiting www.acb.org/affiliate-acbl. ACB Lions will celebrate its 50th
anniversary at the upcoming 2021 ACB convention; program details and
schedule information will be announced soon.

ACBL sponsors two email lists. Join the acb-lions email list, open to
all interested persons, by sending a blank message to
acb-lions+subscribe@.... When you become a member of ACB
Lions and share your email address with us, you will also be
subscribed to our members-only list.

If you are already a Lion, have been a Lion in the past, or would like
to become a Lion, you are invited to be part of the American Council
of Blind Lions. Membership is open to people who are blind, visually
impaired or sighted. One-year membership is just $15.00; life
membership is $150.00.

Pay dues and/or make a tax-deductible donation and help us continue
our good work. Pay by credit card by calling (502) 897-1472, or visit

In the names, I think the one couple may be Link, not Lenk.
There was also a name who called in from Boston last night and his first name was Gerard. His accent was so heavy that it took me a couple of minutes to understand what he was saying.

Agreed, Marsha. I’ll have to do something about my Zoom name. I needed to correct it and when I have attempted to delete the error-well, I don’t hear the same kind of sound when I’m entering my name so didn’t realize I’d deleted everything up to my first initial. I guess I’ll have to check it every time I log on.

Nice to hear you on the calls, Marsha.

Subject: [acb-lions] Reminder -- Your Chance to Win the Perfect After
Holiday Gift and support ICB

The Holidays are coming. You're trying to figure out the perfect gifts to
give to everyone on your list.

Here's a chance to win the perfect after-holiday gift for yourself and
support the Illinois Council of the Blind in our holiday raffle. You'll
need something to do after the holidays, how about a one-year membership to
Netflix so you can watch movies and other content, much of it with audio
description. You have to have munchies to go with that content, right? How
about a $50 gift card to Chicago's famous Garrett popcorn shop. And to keep
you warm on those cold nights while you're watching all that great content
and enjoying that savory popcorn, a fuzzy blanket.

All of this can be yours for $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20. Tickets
are now on sale until Monday, January 4, 2021. We'll draw the lucky winner
on Friday, January 8, 2021. You can purchase tickets on the ICB Website,
www.icbonline.org by clicking the "2020 Holiday Raffle" link in the quick
links section. The direct link is www.icbonline.org/2020-holiday-raffle.
If you buy five or more tickets, the discount will be applied at checkout.
You can also call the ICB office at 217-523-4967 and purchase tickets using
a debit or credit card. Or, you can send a check to: Illinois Council of
the Blind, PO Box 1336, Springfield, IL 62705-1336. Be sure to include the
number of tickets you want.

Thanks in advance for supporting ICB, and good luck. And, Happy Holidays
from all of us in Illinois.
