October meeting minutes
Carla Ruschival
ACBL Open Board Meeting via Conference Call
October 6, 2016 The ACBL open board meeting via conference call was called to order on Thursday, October 6, 2016, by Lion President Carla Ruschival at 8:00 p.m.CST. Those in attendance were: William Benjamin, Sally Benjamin, Margaret Johnson, Adam Ruschival, Carla Ruschival, Elaine Weisbard, LouAnn Williams, Joan Cox, Grady Ebert, Karen Eitel, Marlaina Lieberg, Mitch Pomerantz, Donna Pomerantz, and Larry Skwarok. The minutes were approved as presented. Lion Adam reported receipt of an ACBL refund from the national office of $399.09, making a current balance in the ACBL treasury of $8,649.09. The treasurer's report was accepted as presented. Lion President Carla suggested that further discussion of the annual Millie's Place event be postponed until more information is available. After some discussion of what has been referred to as the ACBL Open Board Meeting via Conference Call, a decision was made to refer to this meeting in the future as the Monthly Open Meeting of the American Council of Blind Lions via Conference Call. Lion President Carla asked the lions on the conference call to discuss the position of Program Chairman in local Lions Clubs and to describe some interesting programs experienced by the clubs. In some clubs the Program Chairman is a one-year appointment, and in others the Program Chairman serves for one month. A motion was made and seconded that ACBL be a $2,000.00 coral sponsor for scholarship support unless additional funds become available for a $3,000.00 Topaz sponsorship. The motion carried. Lion Adam suggested that a letter be sent out to the ACBL membership stating that the month of March be designated as the ACBL month for working with individual clubs to solicit donations toward this goal. Lion Marlaina brought up the subject of blind and visually impaired Lions accessing training materials from LCIF over the internet in PDF format and in graphics. This topic will be discussed further at next month's ACBL meeting via conference call. Lion President Carla suggested that there be a discussion at next month's meeting concerning ways for blind and visually impaired Lions to be better included in Lions Club activities. The next open meeting of American Council of Blind Lions via conference call will be November 3, 2016 at the usual time. Realizing no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Lion Margaret Johnson, Secretary -- Carla Ruschival, Treasurer American Council of the Blind (502)897-1472 carla40206@...

September meeting minutes

ACBL Open Board Meeting via Conference Call
September 1, 2016 The ACBL open board meeting via conference call was called to order on Thursday, September 1, by Lion President Carla Ruschival at 8:00 p.m. CST. Those in attendance were: William Benjamin, Sally Benjamin, Margaret Johnson, Adam Ruschival, Carla Ruschival, Elaine Weisbard,Joan Cox, Grady Ebert, Karen Eitel, Jack Lenk, June Lenk, Mitch Pomerantz, Donna Pomerantz, Ray Campbell, Karyn Campbell, Larry Skwarok, Teresa Christian, and Pat Wallace. The minutes were approved as presented. Lion Adam reported the bank balance as of the end of August to be $8,250.00. This amount included a receipt of $150.00 for a life membership. Lion President Carla reported that ACBL will soon be receiving a $399.09 refund from ACB for ACBL activities at the conference and convention. The treasurer's report was accepted as presented. There was a motion made and seconded that, if at all possible, the ACBL luncheon and business meeting be scheduled for Wednesday during next year's ACB conference and convention and that a local Lions Club be invited to attend. A decision was made to use the June ACBL open board meeting via conference call to take care of business usually conducted on Sunday morning at the ACB conference and convention. There was not enough scheduling information to make plans for the ACBL Millie's Place activity. Lion President Carla noted that the price of the Topaz sponsorship for the 2017 ACB conference and convention will be $3,000.00. Lion Adam was asked to look at the ACBL finances before the October meeting and to provide information on the level of sponsorship that is best for ACBL. The guest on the conference call for September was Lion Dick Hefner, President of the Paragould, Arkansas, Lions Club, where Lion Margaret Johnson has been a member for 12 years. In addition to describing the projects of the club, Lion Dick noted that he thought it was a good idea to have visually impaired people in Lions Clubs so that everyone could be aware of the happenings in the blind community. Lion President Carla asked other lions on the conference call to give examples of times when they helped with projects in their local Lions Clubs. The next open board meeting via conference call will be October 6, 2016, at the usual time. Realizing no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Lion Margaret Johnson, Secretary -- Carla Ruschival, Treasurer American Council of the Blind (502)897-1472 carla40206@...
