Our club did Candy Day until just a few years ago.  I personally was glad when they dropped it; just a tad too close to begging.  Not sure if any of the other clubs in the area still do Candy Day or not.

Hi Tammy and All:

 

One thing we do for membership recruitment is to have one or two really interesting programs a year, publicize these in the local media, and invite members to invite perspective members to these events.  Of course, people can bring a perspective member to any meeting, but these events are special.  At our first meeting in November, we heard from a local gentleman who survived the Holocost and told us his story.

 

Our club has four fundraisers each year.  We in partnership with the Lions of Illinois Foundation participate in Candy Day where we stand on street corners or in front of businesses and take in donations, giving people a roll of candy in appreciation.  I believe Illinois is the only state where Lions have Candy Day.  Our club has a Spaghetti dinner in the spring, we run the Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts in late summer and have a golf outing in the fall.
